Six Ways to Keep it Moving

Mama said there would be days like this! Days were nothing you are trying to get done, seems to be getting done. Days were it seems like your focus is off. Days were you are not seeing the payoff for your work efforts. Days, you just simply don’t feel like working. But you told yourself, you can not live another year, like your last (struggling)! You made a commitment to yourself, not to give up on your dream of working from home, because you want a better future. You deserve a better way of life! So how do you keep things moving forward in business, when you’re lacking motivation, or feeling a little discouraged, or simply struggling to focus?

  • Keep a constant visualization of the end goal. Picture what your life will look like and feel like once you reach your business goal(s). Paid off debts, new home, family vacations, college savings for children, charity donations, making significant purchases with cash, etc. Use visualization board. It can be an actual hard board or digital collage. Make sure it is placed in an area where it can be in constant view at all times. This exercise in visualization will help to cement your purpose and desire within your heart.
  • Set daily / weekly goals. Very little will get done without a plan. This is why we are taught at an early age to set a goal and follow it. They key is to set reasonable goals that can be accomplished. For example, I may set a goal to make $10,000 in a month (as other marketers claim they have done), but if I don’t even have 1,000 subscribers yet, that $10,000 goal may be a unrealistic and I’m sure to quit. If I set my goal to gaining at least 100 subscribers within the month, then that goal is more attainable and will lead to feelings of accomplishment. I will then have enough confidence to continue. As I progress my goals will increase. Another suggestion; if a task seems a bit overwhelming, break it down into smaller tasks. It may take a little longer, but that’s ok, as long as it gets done. Remember the turtle still won the race!
  • Keep the blood circulating. Sitting for hours at a time can be mentally and physically draining. So get up, turn on some music and dance, jump, run in place, or stretch. If you’re really lacking focus or inspiration, get out of the house. Run a quick errand or go for a jog or a walk in the park. You’ll be amazed at how a simple breath of fresh air and sunlight, will work to refresh your mind and body.
  • Take a day to just read, research and or study others. We all have our down days. You know days where you are just not feeling 100% for whatever reason. On those days, it may be best to look towards others for encouragement and motivation. Their words and actions may help to inspire you to the next level.
  • Identify what’s working well. So often in business, we focus on the problems and the things that seem to be not working. This ultimately leads to frustrations and discouragement. Instead, make a point to find out what is working well within your business. Take time to celebrate the small steps. Do this at least 1 to 3 times per a week and you will see and feel more success. The more successful you feel and believe you are, the more likely you will continue on your road towards success.
  • Get a good nights rest. Now we all know, that starting out in your own business, takes time and efforts beyond your typical daily routines. Yes, sacrifices in the beginning may have to be made, such as missing out on a good nights sleep. Be mindful of your limits, undue stress from a lack of sleep, can have adverse effects on your business, your health, and relationships. How do you know when, you might need to take a break from a late night of working? When you’ve been on edge all day. Little things are annoying you and you just want to be left alone. Your mental alertness is lacking, brain feels cloudy, and or you are experiencing mental blocks. Just stop, take a chill pill, and go to bed! You will feel better in the morning!
